No GP Jef Scherens for Maarten

Maarten decided no to start in the GP Jef Scherens, who is ridden today in Leuven. Maarten was looking for racing here this year as he achieved some top ten places here in the past.
Maarten has still too much pain of his fall in the Schaal Sels to prepare for this race.
Paris-Brussels will be his next race.


Tom Boonen takes title, Maarten 19th despite fall

Yesterday the national championship was ridden in Aywaille. In the hometown of top Belgian rider Philippe Gilbert, 17 laps had to be done.
Each lap the côte the crétalles, which had pieces up to 15%, had to be climbed. In total the race had a distance of 235 km.
A championship which Maarten liked a lot.
Unfortunately Maarten was in a fell about 90 km before the finish. He had some bruises and abrasions.
Maarten was able to continue and managed to return into the bunch.
In the final laps he came just a bit short to follow the 18 leaders. This was due to his fall. Tom Boonen sprinted to his first national title while Maarten finished 19th.



Maarten 6th in the final stage of the Bayern-Rundfahrt

The final stage of the Bayern-Rundfahrt ended in a mass sprint. The stage from Friedberg to Gunzenhausen had a distance of 166km.

Van Avermaet wins the Heistse Pijl, Maarten 7th

Today a race was ridden at Heis-op-den-Berg. On the program eleven laps of 15 km, a total of 165km. More then 200 riders at the start.

The race ended in a mass sprint won by Greg Van Avermaet who was faster then Wouter Weylandt and Denis Flahaut. Maarten sprinted to a 7th place.

Van Hummel wins again, Maarten 10th

Kenny Van Hummel, winner of the Batavus Pro Race last wednesday, won his second race in a row. In Veenendaal he won the Dutch Food Valley Classic, a race of 210km. After one hundred kilometres 5 riders managed to escape. Topsport Vlaanderen had Johan Coenen in the leading group. They had a maximum advantage of 5 min. Skil-Shimano and Rabobank started to chase and caught the leaders in the final kilometres.

Van Hummel was the fastest today and won in front of Graeme Brown and Steven De Jongh. Maarten finished 10th.
